In the beginning, there was an empty lot.

The Concordia City Commission was looking for ways to help downtown businesses increase sales and ways to fill empty storefronts. There were 5 lots at the corner of 6th and Broadway; remnants of a fire that ravished the buildings that once stood in their place. The Commission purchased the lots and began working with an architectural firm to design a public space. On June 10th, 2014, close to 200 residents attended a public meeting where they determined what components mattered to them the most in a public space. In the end, they helped design a facility to be a key meeting place for friends, neighbors, family, and guests.

The City of Concordia welcomes you to the Broadway Plaza.

"Cultures and climates differ all over the world but people are the same. They'll  gather in public if you give them a good place to do it."

Jan Gehl

The Broadway Plaza is the City of Concordia's premier outdoor public event center and home to 100-150 events each year. A gateway to Concordia's downtown shopping, dining, and entertainment district, the Plaza serves to assist the local economic development within the City while providing a public space for our residents to gather and help foster a greater sense of community.

Located in the heart of downtown Concordia, the Broadway Plaza is a gorgeous new enhancement to the North Central Kansas area, providing the perfect gathering spot for individuals and families to relax, unwind and connect socially (the old fashioned way) while enjoying a beautiful day. The site includes an incredible public performance stage, an enormous digital television/movie screen, scores of unique outdoor dining spots, a fully-automated, zero-depth splash pad, and so much more! The Broadway Plaza is the ideal location for your next function, from weddings, birthdays, graduation parties and other special occasions to all types of fun-filled festivals and celebrations!

The Broadway Plaza is an integral facet of many area small-town festivals and events, such as Concordia's Fall Fest featuring over 50 arts and crafts and food booths, free entertainment, parade, games, music and much more! Open year-round, join us at the plaza to watch the K-State & Chiefs football games or join us each November for Concordia's annual Hometown Holiday to kick-off the holiday shopping season! Future Generations- This magnetic open space was made possible by the generous support of the City of Concordia, our sponsors, and its tremendous citizens who care deeply about the area and its quality of life. The Concordia Chamber of Commerce, the CloudCorp Economic Development firm, Cloud County Convention & Tourism, and many downtown business owners collaborated with the City of Concordia on the design and development of the Broadway Plaza for the enjoyment of area residents and tourists to North Central Kansas.
